ORCHESTRA PROGRAM

2024-2026

I want to give some context on the event itself before describing my role in it. The concerts I worked on are part of my school's orchestra program, held at the Wilkie Bergmann Theater Performing Arts Center. This isn't a one-off production — it's a recurring fixture of the school's performing arts calendar, staged three times every year. Each concert brings together a different lineup of student musicians and ensembles, so while the format and venue stay consistent from year to year, the cast and specific ensemble combinations change every season.

Because a new group of performers is involved each time, the technical and production side of the event — coordinating rehearsal schedules, managing transitions between ensembles, handling sound, and keeping communication clear between musicians and crew — essentially has to be rebuilt for every concert, even though the overall structure of the series remains the same.

Stage manager/
Sound board operator/
Line editor/
Stage hand

I was involved in seven different concerts over three years, serving as stage manager, sound board operator, line editor, and stagehand. These events demanded precise coordination—balancing rehearsal schedules, managing transitions between ensembles, and ensuring smooth communication between musicians and technicians. Unlike theater productions, concerts required me to focus on timing, pacing, and the subtleties of live performance.

Through repeated practice, I learned how to balance audio between different instruments, adapting to changing combinations of ensembles. I also refined my skills in live cue management, quick problem-solving under pressure, and maintaining professionalism in high-stakes environments where mistakes are immediately noticeable.
